I Believe.. I believe, God is real. I believe, family is most important. I believe, school would be a waste of time if it wasn’t for sports. I believe, we aren’t the only forms of life in this universe. I believe, the relationship between a father and a son is stronger than the relationship between a mother and her son. I believe, all people are equal and should be treated equal. I believe, dreams are more often better than reality. I believe, school should start at a later time because I don’t get enough sleep every night. I believe, self-confidence is a key to happiness. I believe, football is America’s favorite sport. I believe, drugs/alcohol change a person’s personality. I believe, life’s too short. I believe, Jesus is my savior. I believe, I will have a good future. I believe, love can last forever. I believe, the word “love” is thrown around too often. I believe, that you can never stop learning. I believe, you go to heaven after death. I believe, friendship can last a lifetime. Mistakes
Mistakes are a big part of human life. But do they do more good or bad? Every body has their own opinion, but I believe that mistakes push you towards triumph. Without mistakes, we wouldn’t be able to learn. I think biologist Lewis Thomas, who wrote The Medusa and the Snail, has the right theory. But, you don’t always have to make a mistake to learn, you can learn from success also.
Alexander Fleming, a doctor in 1929, saw the casualties in war that bacteria had brought on. After being a doctor for war, he went home and devoted his life to finding a cure for bacterial infections such as staphylococcus. He wasn’t having much luck, and was beginning to give up. Just as he gave up hope and stacked up the pastry dishes, he noticed a moss growing o the dishes from not keeping them sanitary. He looked at them closer and noticed that in fact, the moss was killing the staphylococcus bacteria. This story in history proves Lewis Thomas’ beliefs because Fleming didn’t mean to put that bacterium on the pastry dish, but because of his mistake, we now have penicillin.
An example of learning from failure that I have seen first hand is, my brother used to do drugs\alcohol and steal from everywhere. People could tell my brother wasn’t on the right path. I’m not sure if it was the people that he hung around with, but he was always up to no good. His best friend, who’s also pretty much a brother to me, wasn’t much different. His freshman year, everything changed. They each met a girl who brought them to Christ. Now, when he looks back on how his life was, he’s ashamed and feels like a disgrace. In his own failure, he saw that his life wasn’t all that great without something to believe in. He felt like he was missing something, and that “something” was Jesus.
An other example of learning from failure in history is, the columbine massacre. These two kids came to school with guns and started shooting. The shooting took place because the kids were bullied and picked-on. No one ever saw it coming, and couldn’t stop it. Ever since that school shooting took place, schools have been cracking down on bullying. Now, there is a no-tolerance for bullying in schools. School districts and the government learned that bullying can lead to really bad things if it’s not watched and stopped.
Failure is an every day action. Everyone has failed at least once in their life. But instead of getting down on your self for not doing something right, you should embrace it, and learn from it. I hope this essay taught you to learn from your mistakes and when you try it again, hopefully you’ll come out on top.
In-Class Essay
Changes in the world don’t happen every day. But changes are made by an event either catastrophic, or phenomenal. Margaret Meade has a quote, stating that small groups can change the world for good and for bad. History does prove this statement, as I will show in this essay. Take 9/11 for example. Mohamad Atta- the leader, and 22 others in Al Qaeda, turned a normal Monday morning into one of the worse, (if not the worse) events America has ever seen. During that dreadful morning, Mohamad Atta and his 22 associates Hi-jacked four planes and were plotting to crash them into America’s most well-known buildings full of innocent people. As soon as that first plane hit one of the twin towers, America would never be the same again. This act of terrorism by a small group of Al Qaeda changed America’s history in the blink of an eye. These Terrorists proved Margaret’s statement true, but as you can tell, it was in the negative way. Here’s another example of her quote being true from terrorism. On the day of 9/11, only 3 out of the 4 planes successfully hit their targets. The plane that missed was flight 93. After the terrorists had taken over flight 93, the passengers had no idea what the terrorist’s had plotted. But, after talking to their relatives, they soon realized that their plan was to do a suicide mission and crash the plane into either the white house, or the congress building. After they had found out that they were going to die anyway, the passengers fought back to take over the cock-pit once more. They ended up making the plane crash land in an open farm area in Pennsylvania, by the passengers fighting back; they saved hundreds of lives and also a much needed building. This example proved small group can change history for good. My last example is also from history; The Holocaust. The Holocaust changed the world for good and for bad. The bad side is obviously the massacre of all the Jews for no reason. But, there is also a good side. By the Holocaust happening, we all saw first-hand what predjudism can bring on. The Nazis proved that a small group can change the world for good, and for bad. I believe in Margaret’s quote about how a small group can have a big impact on the history of the world. All these examples prove her quote to be true, but it’s going to be your decision on if you believe it or not.

Medea
In the play “Medea” by Euripides, there is an un-trustworthy husband, and a vicious wife in the story. Jason (the husband) breaks his promise with Medea (the wife), and she kills her own children to get back at Jason. I don’t think either a liar or a murderer is heroic. Neither of them did the right thing.
You can sit there and say Medea is the hero. Jason shouldn’t have broke his promise and Medea’s heart. You can say, Medea was the faithful one and didn’t go back on her word. Medea might have been corrupted and broke, but she had a reason for what she did. She didn’t kill her children for nothing; she wanted to get back at Jason for wronging her. She gave up everything for Jason, and Jason didn’t give much in return. Everyone has hatred; it’s just the fact that Medea had a lot more hate than most women.
I’m personally more on Jason’s side. Jason didn’t commit a crime; all he did was leave his wife. Even after he left her, he loved her and their children so much that he offered to help them in exile. When Medea killed Jason’s children, he was devastated. He was shocked that a mother has such a cold heart that she can kill her own innocent children to get back at her ex-husband for leaving her.
I honestly don’t think either of them are able to be called “heroes”. They both did terrible things that they will probably regret. While Medea murdered her children, Jason did an act of breaking her heart for another younger women, But Jason’s mistake did a lot less harm than Medea’s.
Everybody makes mistakes and no one’s perfect. As you can tell, Jason and Medea were far from perfect. Neither of them are heroes and both did the wrong thing.
